Description
Admiral Samuel Thompson was a resident of Titchfield in the 18th century. His career with the Royal Navy in the 18th century included sea battles with the Spanish in the Caribbean and with the French during the American War of Independence. His second wife was a childhood friend of Thomas Jefferson, who became 3rd President of the United States. One day in 1782 he was in Portsmouth and rode over to see his friend.
